Lessons of A Stay At Home Mom and Entrepreneur
Hi there! My name is Mayra Hoy, and I'm proud to say I'm a stay at home mom. I have two beautiful girls who are 1 and 2 years old. I also have a husband, who, on occasion, masquerades as my third child (love you, honey!). My husband and I have always been entrepreneurial and outside-the-box thinkers. When we graduated from college, we, like any other normal people, got jobs in Corporate America. But we didn't really fit into the mold (basically realized we are not "normal". It's a good thing, though!). We wanted more than what a J-O-B (Just Over Broke) offered. So, we started by reading books. We wanted to have a business that will bring in high profits, and allowed us time freedom. But at the time, our main priority was--the money!
Note To Self: Money Should Not Be The Motivator
And because we put money first, we bought our first business in which neither of us had experience or passion. My husband's background is in exercise science, mine is in music. Ironically, we bought a restaurant! And although it did make a profit, the overhead was extremely high and employees came and went like the wind. We went through about 300 employees in 2.5 years. My husband and I worked over 100 hours a week, each. Keeping this up, I could forget about being a stay at home mom, or even to be a mom at all. And, based on our numbers, if we wanted to take home a six-figure income, we had to open at least 2 more locations! Yikes! So, needless to say, we re-evaluated our goals and desires. Given our passion for health and wellness, with a restaurant, we felt we were poisoning people with fatty food! And we did wanted financial and time freedom, but also contribute good things to society. So, we re-read the books and added more books to the mix for ideas.
We Found It
We came across "Multiple Streams of Income" by Robert Allen. It's a fantastic book that talks about all sorts of different ways to ultimately make "a money tree." Robert Allen said we need to not only diversify but also create residual income. That really hit home for us because we knew that when we didn't work, we had to pay someone to be there in our place. In other words, How much we worked was in direct correlation to how much money we made. In this case, no work, no money. In the Multiple Streams book, Bob (we're on a first-name basis now :-)) actually mentioned network marketing as being a viable source of income. More specifically, he talked about, and is proudly a part of, the company we ultimately joined. And... ...We sold the restaurant.
A Happy Ending
This "happy ending" is actually just the beginning for us. Having a network marketing business has allowed me to enjoy my family as a stay at home mom. We are able to diversify and invest in other businesses, such as real estate. I can continue to study music just because I love to. I am able to meet people from all over the world, do to the fact that my business is international and on the world wide web! The list of pleasures and blessings goes on and on.This stay at home mom learned lots of lessons along the way. I know what it's like to be an employee, self-employed, and now, a business owner. Out of the 3, business ownership is definitely the way to go! Another lesson I learned was not to let money be the deciding factor for anything. Money is important. :-) But when the focus is on helping others, and doing what you love, money is like a "side-effect." It just comes. I enjoy being a part of other people's success. I hope this site and my story helps you get to wherever you want to be! Mayra Hoy Stay At Home Mom Internet Marketer
